I had a bunch of beets to use up and one cooked, in the fridge, so when I made my usual chocolate protein drink recently, I decided to add 1/2 of a large beet.

I was really kind of winging it here, having no idea what the end taste would be, and I would recommend using only 2-3 chunks of beet, at most. Less is probably more. I was overly ambitious, and it was a little too sweet and strong of beets, for my liking. Of course, I had added my usual mango too, so maybe it would have been better without that. I may experiment with it more in the future and see what it tastes like.

I usually use Silk Almond Coconut Blend. That’s my favourite in the line of products because I find it creamier. My go-to protein powder is Chocolate Vega Protein and Greens. They state to use 1 scoop, but I find it to be too much, too rich, so I only use 1/2 scoop.

If you use any supplements or powdered herbs, the Vega protein powder is excellent to hide bitterness! I sometimes open a couple capsules of magnesium and dump them in. I’ve added capsules of different herbal supplements I was taking. Sometimes I add bitter herbs, such as black cohosh, dong quai, burdock root.
